Heartbreaking: The Tragedy Of War

The UK Daily Mail prints a heart breaking article on teenager Sean Dawson who was killed in a gun battle with insurgents.  The death of Kingsman Dawson of 2nd Batt. Duke of Lancaster Regt. is one of three currently being investigated by Military Police as possible deaths by ‘friendly fire’.

The Daily Mail reports that Kingsman Dawson was in close contact with his girlfriend since arriving in Afghanistan.

” In one moving note he said: ‘I’ve just got off the phone to you and I can’t stop crying now I’ve heard you babe. I love you. I am really scared now. ‘When I got shot at on Tuesday, the only person that came to me when that happened was you babe.’

Heartbreaking: the tragedy of war. RIP Sean Dawson.

Mullah Baradar Arrest Ignored In Pakistan

The response to the arrest of Taliban Military Commander Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has very positive in USA and UK news outlets, but less so in Pakistan.

The Mullah ( meaning clergyman) was arrested by CIA and Pakistan Intelligence operatives in Karachi on 8th February 2010. Though not quite a news blackout in Pakistan, analysts state that the muted response to the arrest is possibly because the authorities are wary of being seen as America’s poodle.

Not all western news organisations see this development as a clear cut issue.  Radio Netherlands Worldwide carried an article by respected journalist and Afghan specialist Bette Dam who suggested that Baradar might have been key to a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

UK Police Drone Grounded

Paying the license fee is central to most activities in the UK , and Merseyside Police have found themselves in breach of regulations after sending up their military drone to track down a runaway scallywag, as reported on Mindset Central last week.

The Civil Aviation Authority has grounded the £40,000 drone on the basis that they ‘weren’t consulted’ and ‘no licence was granted’ in respect of the law enforcement body’s latest gadgetry.

Undoubtedly this slight loop hole will be quickly closed in order to allow drones to be a regular sight in British skies.

The Mind Set Podcast: Episode 12

Subscribe to The Mind Set Podcast

mindpodAfter the absence of a single week, and an outcry from rabid listeners, The Mind Set Podcast returned to the virtual airwaves with a paranoid grin, and Episode 12!  The show began with the usual rambling greetings that we’ve all grown to love, and Gareth’s apology and workaholic excuse for causing last weeks absence.

Then it was on to the news.

MMR

They removed the choice of parents to opt for single measles vaccine and then said they had a choice. MMR or nothing. They ensured that legal aid was withdrawn, which was the only avenue for parents to attempt to get to the truth. They prosecuted the doctors involved, in the longest trial in GMC history, brought not by parents of their patients, but by a free lance journalist, with a fixation on one of those doctors. It took several years to get their chosen verdict.

There were children who, by any standard, literally were normal one day and autistic the next. Whilst I would agree that there is no scientific evidence to support a link between MMR and autism, there is sufficient evidence to investigate parents’ concerns. The controversy will not end until such an investigation is undertaken, independent of government. The doctor is currently living and working in the USA and is loved and admired by all parents who felt let down by lack of proper tests and feel isolated. Blair consistently refused to say if his kids got the MMR. It was thought that it didn’t.

Brain Scans

Consciousness is never destroyed. Imagine everyone talking around you thinks your totally unaware and then they want to put you to sleep. It must be terrifying. The number of people over the decades who have died when still aware.  At least now they – or some – will potentially have a choice if they want switching off or not. The law will possibly have to change to allow for Assisted Suicide to take place.

US Casualties In Pakistan

Are USA troops now on the front line in Pakistan, as the war on Afghanistan Taliban gains momentum?  Pakistanis think so. Drones, uniforms, and now casualties all point to an increased level of military action from the USA from Pakistan – and the Pakistan Govt are scared of the reaction of their citizens to this fact. This comes at a time when anti-US sentiments are running high in Pakistan. Indiscriminate US drone attacks have killed hundreds of civilians in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal areas, resulting in a surge in anti-American sentiments.

Anti-US groups have targeted growing numbers of American troops. Reports – unconfirmed by the USA authorities- that there are 9,000 agents working for the US-based security firm Xe Services LLC (formerly known as Blackwater) are operating in Pakistan. This is a Covert War we aren’t really being told about.

Fringe Global Warming

A great show, but even in these sci fi shows they put in a little ‘accepted truths’ taken as real truth, that seems to make global warming a fact.  The power of the subliminal message…

Castle Destroyed

You may think that you own your own property, you may have bought or built yourself? No! Local Authorities own it, and they will make you pay to live in it, decide what shape it can be, and what is in it?

If you decide to build an extension, you can be forced through law to pull the new work down. If you have the CHEEK to do it without asking for planning PERMISSION they will make you pay by flexing their muscles and pulling it down. The decision lies with a Council Minion who has yea or nay final decision. He can send it to elected reps to decide – or can make the decision for himself. An Englishman’s Home Is Not His Castle

Tea Party Nation

Hijacked by Opposition Party (the Republicans) Sarah Palin, reading from her hand whilst criticising Obama for using a Teleprompter. Boston Tea Party started USA independence from the UK and the current Tea Party started as like-minded individuals protesting about Big Brother. TP is called racist because a news guy said ‘ I don’t see many black people out here’. Implied racist org or crackpots.

Until Next week, Peace Out Humans…

UK Police : 14 Million Image Reads Per Day

The Register reports that the National Policing Improvement Agency are using 10,000 cameras to automatically read and process 14m number plates of Britain’s motorists per day.

Quite what this body are doing with the information is not disclosed.  In fact the Agency, run on behalf of the Association of Chief Police Officers, refuse to disclose where their secret cameras are located.

But they do admit that they now have the capacity to record up to 50 million each ( and every) day.  Presumably their hard drive will be groaning under the bytes stored.  And it is not just a ‘numbers game’.   Some police forces also use their ANPR cameras to capture larger images of drivers and passengers which are then stored for up to one year.  WHY???

First UK Arrest By Military Drone

Suddenly Drones (UAVs) are in the news everywhere. Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq… and Merseyside.  U.K. Police made their first Drone assisted arrest, tracking down a suspected car thief using thermal imaging technology to track one of the suspects.  Chief Inspector Nick Gunatilleke from the Force’s Anti-social Behaviour Taskforce, which operates the UAV, said:

“We are the only police force in the country currently using a UAV like this and this is the first time the thermal imaging equipment has led directly to an arrest since the UAV went live in November so we are very pleased.”

BAE, who recently escaped bribery charges , is racing to corner the Drones market in the UK. Meanwhile, a 20 year old and 16 year old youth were released on police bail pending further enquiries following the incident on 26th January 2010.

Winners And Losers

Rajapaske and Fonseka

Democracy brings out the worst in some people. We’ve all heard of sore losers. Well, it seems that some are better at winning than others.  Take, for example, the recent victor in the Sri Lankan Presidential elections.

No sooner had the last ballot paper been counted than the re-elected President Mahinda Rajapakse sent round his military to arrest the runner up,  former General Sarath Fonseka.

The row stems from who took credit for defeating the Tamil Tigers in 2009. Fonseka was declared a national hero after crushing the rebels last May. A further clue to his treatment today is that Fonseka then put himself up against his former Commander in Chief in the January 24th 2010 Presidential Election.

The Crying Game

Playing the ‘emotion’ card is nothing new in mainstream politics. Two keen players in the ‘New Labour Project’ today ‘broke down’ in front of the cameras.

Ex-Communications Chief Alistair Campbell – not one renowned as a blubberer – and UK PM Gordon Brown, well known for his dour presentation techniques, shed tears during interviews, some say to co-incide with a New Labour fightback against Government – in – waiting ‘The Conservative Party’.

Whether or not this is genuine emotion or simply camera play cannot be ascertained due to the skill of presentation now vital in the world of politics.

Woman Without Talent Sues ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Who Decided She Didn’t Have Any.

It simply had to happen. In a land so besotted with political correctness  that competition itself is now frowned upon and where there are only winners in order that losers don’t feel too bad about themselves , a woman has decided to sue the vacuous UK television show ‘Britain’s Got Talent.’

Citing a medical condition ” which affects her ability to hear her own singing voice in noisy environments such as the audition arena “, Emma Amelia Czikai said she was lodging her claim under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 because  she believes her medically documented disabilities affected her audition.

According to the Guardian Newspaper ” She also maintains that Britain’s Got Talent can be classed as her employer because the auditions were a process of elimination in which candidates competed for short-term employment contracts for a road show. “

Obama NASA Announcement Starts Moon Wars

The decision to drop plans to return astronauts to the Moon has opened the door for China , Russia and India to take the initiative in establishing a permanent base on Earth’s close neighbour- and all the military strategic advantages that such a base would deliver.

The Obama proposal “begins the death march for the future of U.S. human space flight,” Senator Richard Shelby, the senior Republican on the subcommittee that determines NASA’s budget, said in a statement. If the budget is enacted, NASA “will be the agency of pipe dreams and fairy tales,” he continued.

Possibly there may be other considerations as to why the USA has abandoned its once most pressing space initiative. Whether the reason is simply financial – doubtful as the USA administration continues to pour billions of dollars down a military drain – or by other more non-earthly reasons , only time will tell.
