The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
“I am fearful when I see people substituting fear for reason.”
Some might say that ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ is a film about an Alien Invasion and in some ways they would be right. Yet this is a film with so much more. Beautifully directed, shot and with an alien that we can relate to. It leads us to reflect upon who we are and how we develop as a race, the Human Race.
Working on many levels this film has stood the test of time since its 1951 release. Underneath the surface story of an Alien who has come to warn us lays a deeper message of Biblical proportions, laced with prophecy, ‘miracle events’ and even reincarnation. Are we being told to watch the skies for danger, to be responsible with our science or that the greatest danger is within us all? Whichever answer you prefer remember these words just in case…
