Editing the Situation Room

May 9th, 2011

MindSet

Regardless of what you think about the recent images of the "situation room", whether real or staged, you have to admit that the photograph does have a certain Hollywood feel to it.

Very "24" if you ask me...

Any form of censorship usually rubs me the wrong way and the images posted below are no exception.

This image was released world wide just a few days after the press release concerning the death of Osama Bin Laden.  The photograph depicts the President and his cabinet watching an apparent live video feed of Osama Bin Laden being killed.

This is the image published by Ultra Orthodox Jewish news paper Der Tzitung, showing the deliberate removal of all females in the picture.

The argument for deleting women or girls from photos is that they are sexually suggestive or show women interacting with men in ways that are considered inappropriate by the Ultra Orthodox. Whether that’s the case here, or whether it was discomfort showing a woman in a position of significant political power, the effect is to rewrite history to erase the role of women in political decision-making.
