Is this a goof or what?
The United Nations, it its infinite wisdom has decided to appoint an Earth ambassador to the Aliens, should they ever show up.
Mazlan Othman, the head of the UN's little-known Office for Outer Space Affairs (Unoosa), is to describe her potential new role next week at a scientific conference at the Royal Society’s Kavli conference centre in Buckinghamshire.
She is scheduled to tell delegates that the recent discovery of hundreds of planets around other stars has made the detection of extraterrestrial life more likely than ever before - and that means the UN must be ready to coordinate humanity’s response to any “first contact”.
There are a number of reasons why this story, even if true, is nonsense.
1. Aliens in the traditional "creatures from outer space" sense, are unlikely to show up and announce themselves as if they had just found out about Earth, Humans etc.
Most main stream scientists will agree that the universe is probably teaming with life, and that some of that life will be probably be intelligent.
As the age of the known universe is estimated to be somewhere around 15 billion years old, our solar system is therefore relativity young, being only an estimated 5 billion years old. So we could speculate that there could be far older an more advanced civilizations out there just based on the possible age of the universe.
The chances of one of these ancient civilizations discovering us and then coming over for a visit, is slim to none. In the traditional view of the universe and reality in general, a physical visit by aliens is virtually impossible. So contact would be made via radio waves or light beams. Nice and safe...
Wow, lots of "possibles, estimates and speculations" in there...
2. The Aliens are already here and have been for a very long time. There is an overwhelming amount of evidence that we have been and currently are being visited by something very strange. I'm talking about the UFO phenomena, of which its modern phase has been in existence for the past 60 years, but in reality stretches back through recorded history. People who say that there is no UFO evidence, simply hasn't looked, as the evidence is in fact staggering.
While it's plainly obvious that this phenomena is real, whether or not aliens are behind it is open to speculation.
3. An an obscure Malaysian astrophysicist named Mazlan Othman, has been placed in charge of this new UN position. I wonder if M. Othman has any prophecies for us..?
M. Othman, I mean come on!
