Has President Obama forgotten Guantanamo?
The media reports today on the ‘delayed trial’ of a Guantanamo prisoner after a lawyer fainted…
Now 23, at the time of the alleged crime Omar Khadr was a boy of 15 (and whilst I do consider him to have been a child at the time of the alleged crime I also accept children can perform very violent acts too).
Excuse me, but did you just read that? The news reports the trial being delayed. For a crime that happened back in 2002!! Isn’t that a case that’s already been delayed for 8 years? Do you think the media are playing down this story? Could they have chosen another way to present it? What about a child who has been held for 8 years without charge is still awaiting his trial in the illegal detention camp that the President of America ordered should be closed over 6 months ago! Or do you think that sounds too dramatic? What if that child was yours – which presentation would you prefer then?
Perhaps this event passed President Obama by as he is certainly a busy man. This week alone he’s been signing $600Million US-Mexico border bills , defending the right to build a mosque near the 9/11 site and urging tourists to visit the Gulf and go for a swim .
Could it be because the President of America is so busy (outside of his Golf games of course) that he’s forgotten about the closure of Guantanamo? After all it was a long time ago, January 21st 2009 I believe, that he signed ‘executive orders’ to shut the detention camp “within a year”…
It seems that we will simply have to wait for the trial to resume again in around one months time… now when will that be. Let me see now. Oh yes – it should resume some when around September the 11th…
