Mock Shooting Drill Leaves Pupils Traumatised

Mr. Holland with clapperboard.

Gun crime in the UK is usually reserved for the no go areas of inner cities.  But pupils at a Worcestershire school in England were left in tears when teachers staged a mock shooting in the playground as part of a science lesson.

Pupils at Blackminster Middle School near Evesham were assembled in the playground on Tuesday.

A shot rang out and a teacher ( Mr. Kent) fell to the floor, pretending to have been shot stone dead. The noise was from a clapperboard.

Headmaster, Mr. Terry Holland, rather like the Pope, later apologised by sending a letter to parents.  The stunt is reminiscent of other spoof events that cause concern and queries as to the benefits of showing mock murder.

On May 14th 2007, teachers at a school in Tennessee USA, staged a ficticious gun attack during a week long trip to a state park.  Teens, not only from that particular school, took shelter under desks in fear of their lives.  Mansfield High in New York  USA, staged a similar event on 12 March 2008.  It was filmed by staff and ran on local news networks.  And in September 2008, 50 teachers in New Jersey were left terrified by a rampaging gunman, having not been informed that the event was stage managed.
