Could there be Zombies in our midst?
Are all people conscious, are all people self-aware sentient beings?
Could it be that a portion of the world population are nothing more than zombies? Intelligent automatons programmed by natural selection to blend in perfectly, and imitate the rest of us?
Who are these ‘zombies’, and why would they exist?
Have you ever had a conversation with someone concerning a spiritual, metaphysical or philosophical subject, that provokes nothing but a blank stare, or glazed eye reaction? Thoughts of why we are all here, and what life is all about probably never enter the minds of these people. Not even a blip on their radar, as their entire mental existence is focused on the material world and its workings.
It would be very easy to label the vast human population as zombies, because quite simply they are mostly very poor and only concerned with the daily struggle of life rather than metaphysical ideas concerning the nature of reality, and even if on rare occasions those thoughts and ideas do pop up, religion is firmly in place to put things right again.
The vast majority of humans on this planet are poor, and this fact alone leads me to think that they may not be the true zombies in our midst, but they could be the very reason that the zombies exist. If they exist at all…
To succeed in this world, wondering about “other” things can slow or stop what society deems as your progress. It really does seem that thinking out of the box can be detrimental to what most people consider to be earthly or material success e.g. money, property and power. So could it be that a non-sentient being would have a distinct advantage in this reality? Being custom built for the job at hand, and not being distracted by things and or issues truly conscious beings occasionally fixate on or wonder about?
Non-sentient successful people? Seems like a contradiction in terms, something along the lines of “military intelligence” or “healthy snack”, but it all seems to make a strange kind of sense.
Smart automatons designed to perfectly function in this reality, and create role-models that uphold ideals for the rest of “us”. Ideals for us to focus on and look up to? Something for us all to aspire to, and all the while keeping our eyes firmly and completely off the ball.
Of course these are just ideas, and probably all nonsense. But interesting none the less…
