London Told “Expect Mumbai Attack”

Scotland Yard has warned businesses in the City of London to expect a Mumbai-style attack.

In a briefing in the City of London on 8th December , a senior detective from SO15, the Metropolitan police counter-terrorism command, said : “Mumbai is coming to London.”

The detective said the money centre of the UK should anticipate ” a shooting and hostage-taking raid ” “involving a small number of gunmen with handguns and improvised explosive devices”.

The Mumbai attack to which the police officer so glibly refers cost the lives of 173 people and , according to Indian authorities , involved British men amongst the terrorists. Reports of ‘fair skinned gunmen’ (BBC 27/11/08) were quickly down-graded to ‘ British Citizens of Pakistani Origin’. (Daily Telegraph 28/11/08).
