  1. cool stuff, why care about RF so much now is indeed a good question. Something to consider with 5G and directed energy is that a sector antenna has to use the same power to reach you but radiates over bigger area but the more advanced sutff can do the same thing with less overall energy put into the sky at you, but of course this can be used to increase capacity and you can have multiple streams in the same airspace by some complex stuff so it’s about being near a busy parts of a network that puts you in the way of the energy. As was said the reality is none of it is safe, and if you look into radiation in general there is not even a concept of a safe dose, it’s about the %% (that’s seen as an acceptable sacrifice to establish the shakedown infrastructure). It’s also funny because everyone who wanted short mobile masts for aesthetics are ignoring the inverse square law, and since most things adapt overall output power in response to signal quality and considering how effective elevation can be around trees and houses then we’d all be better off if they were higher (AFAIK anyway, or maybe that was a scam and they just didn’t want to have to pay for a second set of towers when the higher frequency stuff came in) All the backscatter and passive radar stuff is really interesting but saying that 5G comes from weapons as some do isn’t really considering that the power levels or the waveforms for attack are unlikely to be useful for the much more delicate and subtle communications purposes and having that capability goes against the inherent minimalism of electronics design, and of course the first time someone dies from being essentially less lucky or susceptible it’ll be ‘see… weapons… evidence…’ but maybe there is a kill-beam setting that lets it put out more power than even the highest global wattage limits activated by the state backdoor parts, it’s better to attack that problem by teaching officials that it’s actually possible to have some transparency in open hardware system and make smarter choices on where things are built and get them to take the risks seriously by deescalating the health arguments. There’s lots I don’t know of course, and even stuff like powerline networking could be unhealthy if HAMs can really give themselves cancer, but it seems marginal, there will be genetic components leading to various resistances or weaknesses etc too, and in a way I look forward to the new modes of existence that will come from people that have always been immersed in connection and data rich environments, the fight against the inevitable and systemic need to subjugate people that iterative product driven manufacturing creates.

Dunno where this lot came from, seems stupid to delete it so I sorted some grammar and please accept it as some frothing thanks, I really do appreciate the ‘thank fuck someone else also thinks that’ moments, you’d all be welcome on my ship (I don’t have a ship).
